#FPW2014 Plans Heating Up, NFPA Reports

This year there is a sweepstakes for families who commit to test their smoke alarms monthly. A randomly selected winner will receive a trip for up to four people to either LEGOLAND® Florida Resort or LEGOLAND® California Resort.

This year's Fire Prevention Week starts next Sunday. The theme of the Oct. 5-11 campaign is "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month!"

The National Fire Protection Association is working this year with four FPW 2014 partners: LEGOLAND®, Domino's® Pizza, CVS Pharmacy, and The Home Depot. As usual, NFPA is promoting the week through events and initiatives, including in-store fire safety workshops at Home Depot outlets and having fire departments partner with a local Domino's store to deliver free pizzas to residents from a fire truck. When the pizza delivery arrives at the customer's home, the firefighters will check the home for working smoke alarms and, if the smoke alarm works, the customer's order is free. If the batteries are dead, the fire department will give the residents new batteries.

Another initiative this year is a sweepstakes for families who commit to test their smoke alarms monthly. A randomly selected winner will receive a trip for up to four people to either LEGOLAND® Florida Resort or LEGOLAND® California Resort.

The FPW website offers resources supporting this year's theme, and Sparky the Fire Dog's® FPW page features activities that make learning about smoke alarms and fire safety fun for kids.
