Additional Funding Awarded to Assist Workers from the Closure of Cargill Beef

Funds have been awarded to Texas to help those who worked at the beef processing facility

The DOL announced in a statement that a $953,415 National Emergency Grant will be awarded to 405 workers affected by the closure of a Cargill Meat Solutions beef processing plant located in Plainview, Texas. The funds are being awarded to the Texas Workforce Commission.

“Many of those laid off continue to face great difficulty finding a job that will support themselves and their families,” said Portia Wu, assistant secretary of labor for employment and training, in the statement.  “This federal National Emergency Grant, combined with the Trade Adjustment Assistance program, will provide these workers with the reemployment services they need to prepare them for new opportunities in high-demand industries.”

These funds go toward previous funds that were allotted on June 19, 2013. A National Emergency Grant of $2,066,314 was approved, with $1,112,899 released initially.
