AIHce 2014 Honors Industry Key Players
At the start of AIHce 2014, the American Industrial Hygiene Assocation and American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists presented a variety of awards in various areas of industrial health and safety.
SAN ANTONIO -- The American Industrial Hygiene Association and American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists kicked off last week's AIHce 2014 conference with an opening talk from several members of the association and residents of this city. Attendees got a taste of San Antonio culture with a presentation from the Guadalupe Academy Dancers, which was quickly followed by a video presentation celebrating AIHA's 75th anniversary. Scott Nicholson, the chair of the local conference committee, gave the first talk at the opening general session, discussing what would occur the following days. Following Nicholson, San Antonio City Manager Sheryl Scully discussed her city's robust economy and future renovation plans in transportation, education, and environmental sustainability.
Next, key players from the professional associations – including Barbara Dawson, Pat Paulus, and Torey Nalbone – spoke and gave out the 2014 AIHA and ACGIH awards. Catherine A. Hovde, CIH, won two awards – both the Kusnetz Award for an industrial hygienist under 40 and the John J. Bloomfield Award for a young hygienist committed to fixing industrial hygiene problems primarily through fieldwork. In addition, Philip R. Morey, Ph.D., MS, CIH, was given the Edward J. Baier Technical Achievement Award and Michael A. Jayjock, Ph.D., CIH was given the distinguished service award.
Other 2014 award winners included Michael Harris, Ph.D., CIH (Donald E. Cummings Memorial Award); Denese A. Deeds, CIH (Alice Hamilton Award); Karen Messing, Ph.D. (Yant Award); Beverly S. Cohen, Ph.D. (Meritorious Achievement Award)' Tom O'Conner, MPH (William Stieger Memorial Award); and Franklin E. Mirer, Ph.D., CIH (Herbert E. Stokinger Award).
