OSHA and SWR Institute Renew Alliance

The agency and the institute renewed fove five years their alliance that is committed to addressing workers' safety in the waterproofing, sealant, and restoration industry.

OSHA has renewed its alliance with the Sealant, Waterproofing and Restoration Institute, an alliance that aims to provide resources that help ensure the safety and health of workers in the sealant, waterproofing, and restoration industry. Between 10,000 and 15,000 workers are employed by the 280 companies that are members of the SWR Institute.

Specifically, the two organizations will work together to create case studies and toolbox talks on important OSHA initiatives related to falls and heat stress as part of OSHA's Falls in Construction and Heat Illness Prevention campaigns. The agency will distribute materials in both English and Spanish.

SWR Institute is a non-profit corporation of commercial contractors, manufacturers, and consultants involved in designing, manufacturing, and applying sealant, waterproofing, and restoration products. OSHA's announcement said the agreement will remain in effect for five years.

Assistant Secretary Dr. David Michaels said he believes the initiative is very important for ensuring safety in the industry. "Workers in the sealant, waterproofing and restoration industry experience many of the hazards common to the construction industry, particularly fall hazards," he said. "By renewing our alliance with SWR Institute, we will continue our outreach to industry employers and workers, and provide information and education important to preventing worker injuries, illnesses and fatalities."
