NIOSH Seeking Abstracts for Worker Health Symposium

The agency announced a call for abstracts for the first annual International Symposium to Advance Total Worker Health.

NIOSH announced a call for abstracts for the first ever International Symposium to Advance Total Worker Health, according to a news release from NIOSH. The symposium, set to be held on Oct. 6-8, 2014 in Bethesda, Md., hopes to advance the strategy called Total Worker Health, a strategy integrating occupational safety and health protection with health promotion through recognizing work-related factors and factors beyond the workplace both contribute to the health and safety challenges facing workers.

According to the release, contributors are encouraged to submit research, practice, proposals, and policies for the health, safety, and well-being of workers. The abstracts are to be submitted by March 24. NIOSH has outlined more specific themes and concepts for the abstracts it is seeking, which include: etiologic factors, effects of integrated interventions, strategies and promising practices, measurement tools, barriers to implementation, future challenges, and training.

In addition to the call for abstracts, NIOSH is launching the Total Worker Health webinar series, which is a series of webinars focusing on total worker health strategies. The first webinar is set to be held Feb. 25 from 3:30-5 p.m. EST.
