OSHA Fines Pennsylvania Soft Drink Company Nearly $130,000

Receiving 16 violations, 14 of which were repeat violations, a soft drink bottling company in Pennsylvania owes $129,745 in fines.

A Pennsylvania soft drink company has received nearly $130,000 worth of fines for 16 workplace safety violations from OSHA. Fourteen of A-Treat Bottling Co.’s violations were repeat ones for the Allentown, Pa. facility.

Ranging from electrical hazards to lack of noise engineering controls, among many others, the repeat citations will cost the company $125,895 of the total $129,745 in fines. In addition to these safety hazards, others that were discovered include the failure conduct baseline and annual audiograms; provide noise training; provide machine guarding, machine-specific hazardous energy control procedures and training; ensure means of egress was unobstructed; and ensure proper use of flexible cable.

Another serious violation was discovered by OSHA investigators carrying a $3,850 fines. Material in an electrical service room was improperly stored. The final citation received was related to a defective forklift.

"By continuing to disregard OSHA standards, A-Treat Bottling continues to put its workers at risk of serious injuries," said Jean Kulp, director of OSHA's Allentown Area Office, on the OSHA website. "OSHA will not tolerate employers jeopardizing the safety and health of workers."
