AIHA Members Approve International Affiliate Membership

Members of the American Industrial Hygiene Association have approved a change to its bylaws that adds a new membership category: international affiliate member. To qualify, someone must reside in, and be a citizen of, a country defined by the World Bank as a low-income, lower-middle-income, or upper middle-income economy and actively be practicing occupational and environmental health and safety. International affiliate members will pay dues that are 25 percent of the regular dues amount.

AIHA's Board of Directors unanimously agreed last year to submit this category to the membership for approval. The organization said yesterday that the vote "came as a result of the work conducted by the International Affairs Task Force, appointed by AIHA President Roy Buchan, DrPH, CIH, and led by board member Marshall Denhoff, CIH, ROH." The task force included members of the International Affairs Committee, past and present board members, a member of the Continuing Education Committee, a member of the Product Standards and Guidelines Committee, and staff members.

AIHA and ACGIH have their annual conference, the AIHce, starting June 2 at Philadelphia's Pennsylvania Convention Center. For more information about the international affiliate member category, contact Vicky Yobp, director of member services, at (703) 846-0769 or [email protected].
