Reviewing the Basics of Electrical Safety for Arc Flash and Electrical Shock

As production continues to soar amid global staff shortages, more non-electrical workers are performing electrical work. This often includes simple tasks like pushing a reset button on an overload or turning on/off a breaker or disconnect. However, these simple tasks expose electrically unqualified workers to electrical hazards. Managing these risks is key to preventing injury, equipment damage, and production downtime; unfortunately, most are unaware, overwhelmed, or choose to ignore the risk.

This webinar will explain the arc flash and electrical shock hazard and the mechanisms of injury. The regulatory and consensus standards (such as OSHA Subpart R, Subpart S, and the NFPA 70E) will be introduced and used as a backdrop to navigate the hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control (tolerate, reduce, or mitigate) procedures. Some human factors will be discussed, and the webinar will conclude with recommendations on best practice written procedures that each plant needs.
