DOL Presents Grant Improving Workplace Safety in Indonesia and the Philippines

The award allows for up to $6 million in grant funding.

The United States Department of Labor (DOL) just took a significant step toward improving workplace safety and labor standards in Southeast Asia. The new grant provides up to $6 million in funding to the international worker rights organization Solidarity Center as part of the Multilateral Partnership for Organizing, Worker Empowerment, and Rights initiative.

According to a recent release, this funding will support the development of safe, quality jobs and the enhancement of labor rights in Indonesia and the Philippines. This initiative, the Promoting Quality Jobs in Infrastructure Development project, aims to assist infrastructure project sites in these countries, specifically those financed by multilateral development banks.

Administered by the Bureau of International Labor Affairs, the grant aims to ensure jobs meet high safety and quality standards by empowering workers and unions to rights advocacy via policy changes. This includes collective bargaining efforts as well as collaborations with

Stakeholders, such as partners and multilateral development banks, in relevant project cycles.
