NSC Report Details Changes in Workplace Culture Due to COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the need for support, communication and flexibility from employers.

A report published by the National Safety Council found that positive factors, such as a renewed commitment to workplace safety, have come about as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The report, which is based on interviews with safety, medical and health experts, identified key shifts that have occurred in workplaces since the beginning of the pandemic. Human resources accommodating employees’ request for alternative work arrangements and the improvement of communication at work are among the highlighted improvements. An increased focus on health and safety, sustainability and mental health are also listed.

“The way in which people, organizations and industries work has forever changed,” said Lorraine M. Martin, president and CEO of the National Safety Council. “This crisis has uncovered an innovative new way of working, while laying bare many challenges that have jeopardized the safety of our workforce.”

The NSC hopes that the report will serve as a guide for employers regarding workplace behavior even after the pandemic is over.
