There are 27 workplace heroes and heroines being recognized Sept. 20 for their life-saving efforts, such as saving a drowning child, rescuing critically injured victims from car wrecks, providing first aid or CPR, or performing the Heimlich maneuver while at work.

Three construction workers who saved a drowning child from Lake Washington and others who rescued critically injured victims from car wrecks, provided first aid, administered CPR, or performed the Heimlich maneuver while at work are being honored during the Sept. 19-20 Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Conference in Tacoma, Wash.

There are 27 workplace heroes and heroines in all being recognized there for their life-saving efforts. The conference is taking place at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center and is sponsored by the Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board and the Washington state Department of Labor & Industries (L&I); it will include safety demonstrations and workshops, the 20th annual Forklift Rodeo and the Poletop Rescue Competition, and a keynote speech by Capt.
