New York State's Comp Board Moving Claims Faster

Chair Zachary Weiss said June 5 that the New York State Workers' Compensation Board is making good progress toward achieving its goal of reducing the average time to resolve a disputed claim from about 200 day sto 90 days or less.

The board on June 1, 2007, began that task. New regulations are under review to help it accomplish the goal, Weiss said. "Even though our work is not complete, the board has made significant progress towards meeting this goal. In fact, since January of this year, 88 percent of controverted claims have been resolved within this 90–day target," he added.

"As we move forward, the board will continue to focus on improving our procedures to make sure injured workers receive fair compensation in a timely manner."
