Identifying and Addressing Top Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses in the Construction Industry
This presentation will focus on trends related to some of the most dangerous job site hazards such as falls, electrocutions, struck-by, caught-in/between, and even COVID-19. Amber Trueblood, Assistant Director of CPWR’s Data Center, will review recent research while also sharing interactive data dashboards that allow users to access and manipulate construction industry safety and health data to aid in priority setting, decision making, and education efforts.
Following Amber’s review of the data, Jessica Bunting, Research to Practice (r2p) Director, will share some of CPWR’s resources focusing on two upcoming annual events that address some of the top construction hazards: the National Stand-Down to Prevent Struck-by Incidents (April 11-15) and The National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction (May 2-6).

As the leader of the r2p team, Jessica works to encourage widespread adoption of evidence-based solutions by construction contractors and workers through improving partnerships between researchers and stakeholders, increasing r2p capacity of intermediary organizations, helping stakeholders influence future research, and developing tools, strategies and resources to translate and disseminate research findings. The program provides r2p support to all CPWR-funded research projects and programs, as well as to partners such as NIOSH and OSHA on joint initiatives and priority topics. In addition, the r2p team conducts its own research to identify the best ways to translate and disseminate research findings, increase awareness and use of safer tools, equipment, and work practices, and improve the safety and health outcomes of workers in the construction industry.
