Unlike other job fields, the role of a rescue team is to save lives in a matter of seconds and requires a higher performance from every team member during real emergencies. OSHA 1910.146(k) provides guidance for employers on selecting rescue teams for permit required confined spaces, and 1910.146 Appendix F outlines performance evaluation criteria recommended by OSHA.
