Fatal and Nonfatal Injury Trends in the Construction Industry

Construction workers are exposed to numerous worksite hazards. Despite continuous intervention efforts, work-related fatal and nonfatal injuries occur daily in this industry and hit some worker groups harder than others. In this webinar, you will learn about trends of fatal and nonfatal injuries among U.S. construction workers through 2019. Trends are based on two recent Data Bulletins by CPWR-The Center for Construction Research and Training.

Speakers from the CPWR Data Center will summarize findings from the two data bulletins. The speakers will highlight fatal injuries caused by the OSHA-defined Construction Focus Four hazards (falls, struck-by incidents, caught-in/between incidents, and electrocutions) based on data from the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI), a data collection by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Analyses of nonfatal injuries will focus on severe or lost workday injuries (i.e., resulted in days away from work), using data from the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII) by BLS. Injury causes, risks among construction subsectors, and demographics will also be discussed at the webinar.
