'Tis the Recall Season
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced July 12 that Family Dollars Services Inc. of Matthews, N.C., is voluntarily recalling about 280,000 units of a product named 200 Mini Lights, which were exclusively sold at its stores from September 2011 through December 2011 for $8. They were manufactured in China, according to CPSC's recall notice.
The notice says these multi-colored light sets don't meet the UL standard for this product and pose a fire and shock risk. Three reports of overheating have been made, but no injuries or property damage were reported.
The recalled sets have "200 Mini Lights" and "Multi Lights, Green Wire" printed on the red box. The product is identified by SKU #2211428 and UPC #049696720465 found on the back of the package. The product contains labels attached to a tag on the power cord with UL Listing #E346525 and Model #F0L200A4S.
Owners should immediately stop using them and return the set to a Family Dollar store for a full refund, or they can contact the company by calling 800-547-0359 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays or by visiting the Help section at www.familydollar.com.
