An employee was working on an upper deck, 37 feet above a lower platform, and fell through a ladder opening, landing on an employee who was working on the lower platform. Both employees survived the accident but suffered multiple injuries.
National Safety Month is focused on reducing the leading causes of injuries and deaths at work, on the road, and in Americans' homes and communities.

A 28-year-old worker was fitting solar panels on a roof at the farm on May 19, 2015, when he fell more than 10 feet through a skylight and broke his back in three places.
A worker entered a drainage shaft last fall to clean out mud and debris. He stood inside a bucket attached to a mini crawler crane with no personal fall protection. After descending 10 feet into the shaft, the worker lost consciousness due to the oxygen-deficient atmosphere, fell approximately 40 feet, and drowned in a foot of water at the bottom.
More than 90 educational sessions are on the schedule. Highlights include sessions about distracted driving and also addressing Minnesota's growing population of aging drivers; slips and falls; preventing unintentional injuries at home; active shooter response and preventing workplace violence; office ergonomics; and much more.
The promotion is happening during Safe and Sound Week.
The kickoff event will be held May 1 at The Wharf Project, a multi-use redevelopment project under construction on the District of Columbia waterfront. The project is moving toward an October 2017 grand opening.

The association issued a news release after the U.S. Senate passed H.J. Res. 83, which permanently overturns OSHA's recordkeeping rule, once the president signs it.
"Both of these men suffered shocking injuries after falling from height, which could easily have been a double fatality. Our investigation found the incident could have been avoided had adequate monitoring been taking place," said Tania van Rixtel, the HSE inspector.
New, safer designs will help prevent those accidents when we are in a hurry or forget the basic rules.
