A lawsuit has yielded $5 million in back wages.
The Rocky Fire, one of 16 active wildfires in the state as of Aug. 19, began July 29 and burned nearly 70,000 acres during the following 16 days, destroying 43 homes and 53 outbuildings and forcing more than 13,000 residents to evacuate.
"Impaired drivers who take to the roadways put other travelers in harm's way, and these increased patrols during the Labor Day holiday are designed to save lives by getting these dangerous drivers off the road," DPS Director Steven McCraw said.
"Many heart attacks and strokes, and needless early deaths, can be prevented if we get better control of high blood pressure," said CDC Director Tom Frieden, M.D., MPH.
The agency issued 19 citations and $566,600 in proposed penalties, with 18 of the citations classified as serious.
The first six months of 2015 have produced more traffic deaths and injuries than anticipated.

Acting Administrator Therese McMillan calls the proposed rule “an important milestone.” Comments are due by Oct. 13.
