The American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) will showcase new roadway safety technologies during its 2026 New Products Rollout (NPRO), scheduled for Feb. 20–24 in Houston as part of ATSSA’s 56th Annual Convention & Traffic Expo.
The New Products Rollout features 14 products competing for ATSSA’s Innovation Award, with a focus on technologies designed to improve safety for roadway workers, motorists, and pedestrians. Many of the products emphasize reducing worker exposure to live traffic, improving visibility, and providing earlier warnings of potential vehicle intrusions in work zones.
According to ATSSA, this year’s lineup includes advances in physical safety barriers as well as connected and artificial intelligence–enabled systems that deliver real-time information to help protect workers in high-risk roadway environments.
“The New Products Rollout showcases field-tested solutions designed to address specific safety challenges faced by roadway workers and motorists,” said Nagham Matout El-Zine, ATSSA manager of innovation and technical services. “The products reflect a range of approaches, from mechanical innovations to the integration of artificial intelligence into existing safety devices.”
ATSSA’s annual convention is the largest roadway safety exposition in North America, drawing thousands of safety professionals, transportation officials, and exhibitors. Last year’s event attracted more than 4,000 attendees and 240 exhibitors, according to the association.
Products featured in the rollout come from manufacturers based in the United States and Europe and include systems designed to improve work zone visibility, provide warnings of traffic slowdowns, detect errant vehicles, and reduce physical strain on workers performing repetitive tasks.
A panel of judges from state departments of transportation will evaluate the products and select the recipient of ATSSA’s Innovation Award, along with up to three honorable mentions. The award winner will be announced Feb. 23 on the Traffic Expo floor following a guided New Products Tour.
Videos highlighting each product will be made available online after the convention.
