The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) announced Monday that the BCSP Foundation, its philanthropic arm established in 2018, will cease operations following a strategic review. The decision allows BCSP to fully integrate key initiatives and refocus on its core mission of advancing safety credentials and supporting the professional development of safety practitioners.
“While the Foundation has made significant strides in advancing safety initiatives, we believe that fully integrating these efforts within BCSP will allow us to better serve our credential holders and the industry as a whole,” said Bruce Hollcroft, CSP, ARM, CHMM, President of the BCSP Board of Directors.
Though the Foundation will close, its flagship programs will continue under BCSP’s leadership. These include SHIFT: Global EHS Research to Practice, a peer-reviewed academic journal; the biennial Research & Innovation Summit, scheduled for August 4–6, 2025, in Indianapolis; and the student scholarship program, which provides financial aid to future safety professionals.
“This decision was not made lightly, but it ensures that these critical initiatives receive the dedicated time, resources, and staffing necessary to thrive,” said Travis Kruse, PhD, MS, CSP, Chair of the BCSP Foundation Board.
The Foundation has also supported youth safety education, workforce development, and academic research. Notable efforts include the Dotson Emerging Professionals Award, youth outreach through JA JobSpark, and the Learning on Demand training platform.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to the volunteers, donors, partners, staff, and board members who championed the Foundation’s mission,” said BCSP CEO Christy Uden, CAE, IOM. “Their dedication has been instrumental in shaping impactful initiatives.”
Founded on the pillars of workforce development, youth safety, and innovation, the Foundation’s programs will now be managed directly by BCSP as it continues to serve a global community of safety professionals.
