The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has released a statement congratulating Lori Chavez-DeRemer on her confirmation as Secretary of Labor, emphasizing the importance of workplace safety and collaboration under the new leadership.
“Every administration presents a fresh opportunity to advance workplace safety and health, and ASSP looks forward to working with the new leadership at the Department of Labor,” said ASSP President Pam Walaski, CSP, FASSP.
Walaski noted that Chavez-DeRemer’s background as a small business owner and former congresswoman demonstrates a commitment to worker protection. She also highlighted ASSP’s alignment with the Secretary’s stance against exploitative child labor and called for continued efforts to reduce workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.
“Businesses and organizations in all industries must continue to seek innovative solutions to combat the fact that serious workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities have remained relatively stagnant,” Walaski said. “Success nationwide requires a collective effort driven by steadfast contributions from all groups and government agencies involved.”
The U.S. Department of Labor, with a proposed $13.9 billion budget for fiscal year 2025 and nearly 16,000 full-time employees, oversees workplace health and safety standards across industries. As the new administration takes shape, ASSP reaffirmed its commitment to supporting safety professionals in creating safer, healthier work environments.
