The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) has awarded Cintas Corporation’s Troy and Romulus facilities with the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP) Star award, recognizing their exceptional commitment to workplace safety.
Cintas, a leader in workplace safety, uniforms, and facility services, operates the sites as warehouse and distribution centers for first aid and safety supplies. Their strong safety culture, employee engagement, and continuous improvement efforts have resulted in zero recordable injuries over multiple years.
“Achieving MVPP Star status is a significant accomplishment that reflects a deep-rooted commitment to workplace safety and health,” said Tarah Kile, MIOSHA Consultation Education and Training Division Director.
Setting a Safety Benchmark
As Michigan’s highest workplace safety honor, only 27 companies currently hold MVPP Star status, serving as mentors for others. Cintas now has four MVPP sites in Michigan and 137 nationwide, the most of any company.
Each site demonstrated best practices:
- Cintas Romulus fosters a safety-first culture through employee-driven initiatives like the Ergo Cup Challenge and Safety Observation Program.
- Cintas Troy prioritizes hazard identification, self-inspections, and continuous improvements to maintain a safe work environment.
“Earning VPP certification requires a collaborative approach with the shared goal of eliminating workplace injuries,” said Stephen Jenkins, Cintas Vice President of Health & Safety. “We are incredibly proud of our employee-partners for maintaining safe worksites.”
About MVPP
Established in 1996, MVPP recognizes Michigan employers with exceptional safety and health management systems. To earn MVPP Star status, companies must pass a rigorous safety review, on-site evaluations, and employee interviews.
