NSC, Massachusets Department of Labor Standards Launch Webinar Series on Distracted Driving Risks

The free webinar series aims to equip public sector professionals with strategies to mitigate distracted driving risks.

The National Safety Council (NSC) and the Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards are launching a free webinar series to address the dangers of distracted driving.

According to a recent release, the events are scheduled for February 12, March 12 and April 9, 2025. They target public sector professionals, aiming to provide practical strategies to reduce roadway risks. Distracted driving is a significant public safety issue, contributing to over 3,000 deaths annually. Mobile device use is notably among the leading contributors to such incidents.

“Every day, lives are needlessly lost due to distracted driving,” NSC Executive Vice President of Safety Leadership and Advocacy Mark Chung said in a statement. “Through this series, we’re not only addressing the behavioral side of the issue but reinforcing a Safe System Approach — an inclusive framework that considers all factors to reduce and eventually eliminate crashes altogether.”

The program — which reaches its conclusion during April’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month — includes live interactive training moderated by NSC, followed by self-paced online modules to reinforce key concepts. Each session will conclude with a Q&A to address participant concerns.

“While at work, employees are often on the move while simultaneously trying to multitask. The problem is these distractions are especially dangerous while driving and can be deadly,” Michael Flanagan, director of the Department of Labor Standards, said in a statement. “We’re committed to improving road safety through education, and this webinar series is another way we’re working towards ensuring everyone returns home safely each day.”

More information on the webinars is available on NSC’s Safe Driving webpage.
