OSHA Cites Illinois Roofing Contractor Again for Ignoring Fall Protection Rules

Fino Exterior Inc. continues to ignore fall protection requirements, resulting in repeated OSHA citations and significant penalties.

OSHA has proposed penalties to Lake Zurich, Illinois-based roofing contractor Fino Exterior Inc. after several inspections in 2024 revealed ongoing safety violations.

According to a recent release, OSHA cited the company with 13 violations for failing to provide legally required fall protection during residential roofing work. The violations occurred in Palatine, Orland Park, Palos Heights, and Shorewood during four inspections in 2024. Notably, this is the eighth time since 2020 that the company has been cited for similar offenses, with penalties now totaling $262,631 for 2024 alone.

OSHA inspectors documented numerous violations, including unprotected work near energized power lines, the absence of hard hats, inadequate training on fall protection, lack of eye protection for workers using pneumatic nail guns and improper ladder use.

“Fino Exterior’s blatant disregard for its employees’ safety is a callous invitation to tragedy,” OSHA Chicago South Area Director James Martineck said in a statement. “All too often, our inspectors find construction contractors violating regulations repeatedly in their misguided belief that their workers will not fall victim to serious injuries or worse.”

Fino Exterior’s non-compliance extends beyond its current name. Under a previous name, Arellano Roofing Corp., the company received two additional citations, further proving its safety record. Fino Exterior currently owes $65,115 in unpaid penalties.
