ASSP Updates Membership Model and Streamlined Management System

The changes intend to improve services provided to the organization’s 35,000 members.

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has announced significant updates to its membership model, aimed at enhancing benefits for its membership of more than 35,000 professionals. In addition, the ASSP launched a new association management system to simplify how members engage with the organization.

As part of the changes, members can now join specialized communities without additional fees. These include common interest groups and 18 practice specialties, such as construction, transportation, ergonomics and manufacturing. This adjustment intends to foster collaboration and resource sharing among OSH professionals worldwide.

“More than ever, an ASSP membership is a smart investment in the continued growth of safety and health professionals. It’s also an important investment in helping to keep workplaces safer in all industries worldwide,” ASSP President Pam Walaski said in a statement. “All of these changes are research-based and designed to support member needs while helping ASSP remain strong in advancing the safety and health profession.”

The revamped membership structure includes a planned phased-in dues increase over the next three years, following five years of static rates. ASSP said the fee adjustments are necessary to ensure continued quality services. The new association management system looks to simplify member interactions like event registrations and purchases.

The ASSP’s communities have been active in offering educational opportunities, including more than 80 online safety webinars in 2023-2024, many of which provide free continuing education units (CEUs) to help members maintain professional certifications.
