Hanover Foods Receives $761,876 in Penalties Following Multiple OSHA Inspections

The food manufacturer received a total of 70 violations.

Hanover Foods Corp. has been cited for multiple safety and health violations at its Centre Hall, Pennsylvania, plant, resulting in OSHA penalties of $761,876. This action follows a series of inspections uncovering 70 violations, including nine repeat offenses.

According to a recent release, the investigation—which began in October 2023—was prompted by a complaint regarding the mishandling of highly hazardous chemicals. OSHA’s findings revealed violations such as inadequate employee training, uncorrected equipment deficiencies, a failure to document that its equipment met recognized engineering standards and failure to establish a comprehensive emergency plan.

“Hanover Foods Corp. put its employees at risk of serious safety and health hazards by not complying with federal and industry-recognized safety standards at another of its facilities,” OSHA Area Director Kevin T. Chambers in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, said in a statement. “We will use all of our resources to hold employers accountable when they neglect their legal duty to protect their workers from harm.”

Hanover Foods previously faced similar violations at its Clayton, Delaware, facility in 2019 and 2021, revealing a history of non-compliance. The company now has 15 business days from the receipt of the citations to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA or contest its findings before an independent commission.
