OSHA, Agriculture Industry Hosting Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week This Month

The collaborative event advocates for grain storage safety and runs from March 25-29, 2024.

The agricultural sector is gearing up for the annual Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week, a collaborative effort aimed at mitigating hazards associated with grain storage and handling. Running from March 25 to 29, 2024, this voluntary initiative underscores that even minor adjustments in grain safety can significantly enhance workplace safety.

Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week started in 2017 as a partnership between OSHA Region 7 and the Grain Elevator and Processing Society's Great Plains Chapter. The National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) joined forces with OSHA in 2018 under the National Alliance Agreement. But the event has developed a growing interest across the industry, expanding to include GEAPS and the Grain Handling Safety Council (GHSC).

The week starts with a hybrid event in Mitchell, South Dakota, followed by virtual sessions focused on reducing hazards and enhancing safety. Interested parties can attend free virtual learning sessions. Participants include a wide range of grain industry leaders, including large companies, small facilities and grain-related educators.

As the Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week enters another year, the renewed alliance between OSHA, NGFA, GEAPS, and GHSC aims to extend the initiative's influence, offering more educational and training opportunities. Moreover, the event looks to reduce preventable injuries and fatalities by promoting a culture of safety through manageable changes in daily operations and procedures throughout the industry.
