NSC Voices Support for White House Initiative Against Opioid Crisis

As the White House Challenge to Save Lives from Overdose launches, the number of workplace overdose deaths has sharply increased since 2011.

The National Safety Council (NSC) has expressed its support for the Biden Administration's launch of the White House Challenge to Save Lives from Overdose.

According to a release dated March 14, this initiative represents a national call to action, urging both public and private sectors to enhance training and access to opioid overdose reversal medications. Since 2011, the number of workplace overdose deaths has increased 619 percent, making this effort more timely and necessary than ever.

For its part, the NSC emphasizes the importance of workplace preparedness in combating the opioid crisis. Through its Respond Ready Workplace program, the council aims to mobilize employers in the fight against this epidemic by equipping workers with the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively respond to overdose incidents, not only in the workplace but also in their communities and homes.

The initiative underscores the pivotal role employers play in addressing this public health emergency. The NSC's endorsement of the White House Challenge reflects its commitment to fostering a culture of safety and preparedness that extends beyond the workplace. Accordingly, the NSC urges businesses and leaders to join the initiative.
