MSHA Launched Online Platform to Assist Miners with Healthcare

The tool aids miners and their families in identifying healthcare options tailored to the mining industry.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has introduced an online tool to assist miners and their families in locating healthcare services.

According to a release dated March 6, the "Health Resource Locator Tool"—available on the MSHA website—offers a comprehensive list of healthcare options for the mining community. The initiative is part of the agency’s Miner Health Matters campaign, encouraging regular health screenings and increased health awareness among miners.

Users can search for a wide range of key healthcare resources, including National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health-certified B Readers, black lung clinics and mental health facilities. Searches can be conducted anonymously; filtered by mine names, identification numbers or location; and sorted by distance or alphabetically.

“Miners face many potential health challenges, whether because of disabling injuries, occupational illnesses like silicosis and black lung disease, or obstacles to finding quality mental health care,” MSHA Assistant Secretary Chris Williamson said in a statement. “MSHA’s Miner Health Matters initiative encourages miners to get regular health screenings and maintain awareness about their health, and this tool makes that easier by placing information directly in miners’ hands.”

The Health Resource Locator Tool aims to simplify access to necessary health services for the mining community, while addressing the industry’s health challenges. It will also be integrated into the MSHA mobile miner app and is now available on the MSHA website.
