OSHA Seeking Nominations for the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health

The two open slots are designated for the Department of Health and Human Services.

OSHA is now looking to fill two open slots on its National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health. The committee is comprised of 12 members.

In a bulletin dated July 28, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced OSHA is accepting nominations for the remaining seats, designated for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The committee—which meets up to four times a year—advises the Secretary of Labor and Secretary of Health and Human Services on the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

Nominations can be submitted through the Federal eRulemaking Portal, Docket Number OSHA-2023-0003, and are due by August 29, 2023.

This search will then determine the one HHS-designated public representative and one HHS-designated occupational health professional representative who will join the committee. The Secretary of Labor will appoint members designated by the Secretary of HHS. Incoming members will begin two-year terms on November 16, 2023.

Six other members began two-year terms on August 1, 2023.

Jessica Garcia of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union serves as labor representative. Andrew Perkins of Alabama Power Company is the management representative. Ray Ruiz of American Equity Underwriters serves as occupational safety representative, and Suzanne Teran of the University of California, Berkeley is the occupational health representative. Meanwhile, Jay Withrow of the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry and Michael Larranaga of REM Risk Consultants serve as public representatives.
