Dollar Tree Inc. Hit with $770K in Proposed Penalties After OSHA Inspections

At two stores in Rhode Island, OSHA found boxes stacked in an unsafe manner among other hazards.

Dollar Tree is facing $770,136 in proposed penalties following inspections at two Rhode Island stores.

According to a news release, at the store in Pawtucket, Rhode Island—north of Providence—OSHA inspectors found materials obstructing access to exits and fire extinguishers along with boxes stacked in an unsafe manner, a hazard also discovered at an East Providence store. Here, inspectors also found incorrect storage and labeling of helium-compressed gas cylinders.

The Pawtucket store was cited for four repeat violations and faces proposed penalties of $450,916 while the East Providence location received a citation for three repeat violations and $319,220 in proposed penalties.

"Providing employees with clearly recognized and legally required safeguards, such as unimpeded exit access, properly stored materials and readily available fire extinguishers, must be a priority for any employer and should not be ignored," said OSHA Area Director Robert Sestito in Providence, Rhode Island in the news release.
