Two power generation facilities have been recognized by OSHA for their stellar work in health and safety.
According to a news release, OSHA awarded Blackstone Power Generation LLC, of Blackstone, Massachusetts and Bellingham Power Generation LLC, of Bellingham, Massachusetts, “star” designations under the Voluntary Protections Program (VPP). Evaluations for the designation took place in May 2022. Luminant, whose parent company is Vistra Corp., operates both sites.
"The safety and health management systems at these two plants meet the high standards expected of VPP Star participants," said OSHA Regional Administrator Galen Blanton in Boston in the news release. "Leadership at each site supports active and meaningful employee involvement. Each site focuses on hazard recognition and protection of workers from routine operations and tasks, especially those related to electrical hazards."
The VPP recognizes companies that have excellent health and safety systems, according to its website. The “star” status is the highest designation an employer can receive under the program. Currently, there are 1,996 federal and state-plan sites in the VPP.
