MA Crouton Manufacturer Recognized with “Star” Designation

The company was recognized following an evaluation in April 2022.

Health and safety recognition is in the bag for one Massachusetts crouton manufacturer.

According to a news release, after an evaluation in April 2022, Chatham Village Foods, part of the T. Marzetti Company, in Wareham, Massachusetts was named a “star” level site under OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).

OSHA Regional Administrator Galen Blanton in Boston specifically called out the company’s “employee training and involvement in its safety and health management system” efforts in the news release.

"The company thoroughly involves employees in safety and health teams and committees, and workers there lead the facility's Safety Pillar Team. The company also demonstrates its commitment to training by offering instruction for non-English speaking employees and temporary workers in languages they understand,” Blanton continued.

About 200 people work at the facility in Wareham, Massachusetts.

The VPP recognizes companies that have excellent health and safety systems, according to its website. The “star” status is the highest recognition an organization can earn. Currently, there are 1,996 federal and state-plan sites in OSHA’s VPP.
