ASSP Foundation to Focus on Education with New Task Force

According to ASSP, the task force will "develop a comprehensive educational framework to support safety and health professionals at every phase of their careers."

This week, the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Foundation announced the formation of a new task force to focus on education for a specific group of workers.

This task force will “develop a comprehensive educational framework to support safety and health professionals at every phase of their careers,” according to a press release. It will be responsible for outlining multiple career paths for these professionals at different levels and entry points.

ASSP research shows that many safety professionals do not follow the traditional pathway. About 80 percent of safety professionals don’t have a “safety-related degree” when they enter the industry, and 60 percent transferred from “other disciplines,” ASSP said.

“We’re looking to meet learners wherever they are in their careers so we can help create a highly skilled and more inclusive safety workforce that meets the evolving needs of employers,” said ASSP Foundation Chair Trish Ennis, CSP, ARM, CRIS, in the press release. “It’s all about helping safety professionals get the education they need to thrive.”

Applications for the task force are open until November 11.
