OSHA to Hold Meeting on Process Safety Management Standard

The meeting will take place virtually on October 12, 2022.

OSHA has announced it will host a virtual meeting in October on the Process Safety Management (PSM) standard.

The standard, originally published in 1992, “requires employers to implement safety programs that identify, evaluate and control highly hazardous chemicals,” according to a news release. Changes are being considered for the standard.

Join OSHA for the meeting on October 12, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST. The informal meeting will include an overview of OSHA’s work on the PSM project and a time slot for the public to comment.

You can register online for the meeting and to make verbal comments. If you're interested in writing comments, visit the Federal eRulemaking Portal, Docket Number OSHA-2013-0020.

In 2013, OSHA was ordered via Executive Order to update standards and other requirements “to enhance safety and security in chemical facilities by completing certain tasks,” per OSHA. A Request for Information was published that year, and a Small Business Advocacy Review Panel started three years later.
