Under the grant, $1.9 million was awarded to 14 nonprofits. The grant money will go to helping the organizations with health and safety training and education that focuses on infection disease, including COVID-19, at their worksites, according to a news release.

The organizations are located in many states, including three in California, one in Georgia, one in Hawaii, two in Illinois, one in Maryland, one in Missouri, one in North Carolina, two in Texas and two in Virginia.

The program was founded in 1978 under a different name, New Directions. It was renamed in 1997 after the former Director of the Office of Risk Assessment Susan Harwood, who worked at OSHA for 17 years.
