LA Contractor Cited After Worker Fatally Injured from Fall

The worker fell 30 feet through a skylight while working on a roof.

One Louisiana contractor was cited for a lack of fall protection after the death of a worker.

According to a press release, in April 2022, Premier South Roofing LLC workers were working on a roof at a site. One worker "lost their footing," fell through a skylight and was injured from the nearly 30-foot fall. They later died from the injuries.

Earlier in the year, the agency inspected another site and found workers did not have “adequate fall protection.”

According to the press release, after the worker’s death, OSHA cited the company for two repeat violations for lack of fall protection and not verifying training and proposed penalties of $249,323.

“Falls continue to be the leading cause of deaths in the construction industry and yet, employers like Premier South Roofing LLC repeatedly failed to protect their workers from the risk of disabling injuries or worse,” said OSHA Area Director Roderic Chube in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the press release. “Ensuring that workers are trained on and use proper fall protection, as required by law, can prevent tragedies such as this from recurring.”

Premier South Roofing, LLC employs about 200 workers.
