PA Dollar General Cited for Exit Route Hazards

The store in Pennsylvania was cited for similar violations last year.

A Dollar General in Pennsylvania was cited for exit route hazards, similar to previous citations from last year.

According to a press release, a complaint was filed and OSHA initiated an investigation in December 2021. The agency found the store in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, had "excessive amounts of merchandise in aisleways and in the stockroom."

The two repeat violations OSHA cited the location for relate to blocking exit routes. The agency proposed $136,741 in penalties.

In 2021, OSHA cited the same store for similar citations.

“Preventing employees from freely, safely and quickly exiting a workplace in an emergency can lead to serious injuries or worse,” said OSHA Area Director Kevin T. Chambers in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in the press release. “Dollar General Corp. has a substantial history of the same violations and hazards found at its stores all over the country. Their repeated failures to correct these violations must end before an emergency leads to a tragedy.”

Since 2016, OSHA has proposed penalties for Dollar General stores across the country totaling more than $3.6 million. Dollar General has over 18,000 stores in the United States.
