Learn about preventing struck-by incidents though webinars and free resources

April 11-15 is National Stand-Down to Prevent Struck-By Incidents.

In its third year, this week is geared towards preventing struck-by hazards in the construction industry. According to the Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR), these hazards are one of the leading causes of injury and death. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NOISH), one of the supporters of the week, noted that 170 workers died from struck-by incidents on construction sites in 2019.

Coordinating with National Work Zone Awareness Week, the Stand-Down encourages employers to take time out of the day to talk with workers on preventing struck-by incidents.

There are numerous resources available including webinars, toolbox talks, infographics and videos. The webinars cover struck-by hazards in roadway work, reducing these injuries from heavy equipment and cranes, and preventing these incidents from dropped objects. In addition, last year’s webinars are still available to view. The toolbox talks are available in both Spanish and English.

Through NORA Construction Sector Council, the Stand-Down is supported by NOISH, OSHA, CPWR and the American Road and Transportation Builders Association.
