ASSP Works to Educate Safety Professionals on Risk

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) knows that risk in the workplace continuously evolves as conditions and technology changes. ASSP aims to further educate occupational safety and health professionals on the latest techniques and mitigation strategies to combat risk and better protect workers through its online risk education offerings.

According to the ASSP website, three upcoming courses each run for four weeks and are led by expert instructors in a virtual setting. Attendees will earn continuing education units (CEUs) and gain the knowledge and insights they need to identify and reduce risks at workplaces in all industries.

Essential Risk Assessment Tools for Safety Professionals runs from October 7 to November 4 and offers 1.4 CEUs. Participants will develop a foundational understanding of essential risk assessment tools for identifying hazards, modifying risk assessment tools and applying risk reduction concepts. Registration includes an online self-paced Financial Basics course.

Risk Assessment runs from October 14 to November 18 and offers 2.1 CEUs. Attendees will see that risk assessment is a dynamic process that can help them and their organizations proactively manage workplace risks. Participants will learn about the three main areas of conducting a risk assessment: hazard identification, risk analysis and risk evaluation. Registration includes an online self-paced Creating and Sustaining Effective Risk Assessment Teams course.

Prevention Through Design runs from October 21 to November 18 and offers 1.4 CEUs for beginners with up to four years of experience. Attendees will gain a foundational understanding of prevention through design (PTD) as defined by the ANSI/ASSP Z590.3 standard. Expert instructors will help participants apply PTD methods and concepts to real-world incidents through short videos, scenarios, interactive tools and assignments.

As new risks emerge in the workplace, ASSP focuses on developing educational resources that safety and health professionals can immediately put into practice to protect workers on the job so they return home safe and healthy each day. In conjunction with the ASSP Foundation, the Society will launch a free micro-learning module – Risk Management for OSH Professionals – later this year as part of its expanding online library of educational content. It is a 15-minute introduction to risk management and its benefits. Learners will improve their risk management knowledge and better understand how to help organizations implement a risk management system.
