More People are Using Their Phones While Working, Says Survey

56% of people polled said they feel it is their right to use their phones while they are working.

A survey that was conducted by TRUCE Software reports that employees believe having technology such as mobile phones or tablets increases their productivity.

1,500 American adults were polled for the survey. To contextualize their responses, they were asked to classify their work as either essential, remote, office-based or deskless (meaning not office-based). Sixty-two percent of respondents said those devices specifically “play a key role” in them being productive at work.

Another finding from the survey is that people use their devices at work more often now than they did a year ago. About 36 percent of people admitted to heavier workplace phone usage, while seven percent said their phone usage decreased. Fifty-six percent of people polled said they feel it is their right to use their phone while working.

The survey also highlights the fact that workloads and the length of workdays have increased since the pandemic began last March. More than 40 percent of respondents said they are working more now than they did a year ago. It is deduced that these increased workloads and longer days play a part in the percentage of workers that use their phones often while working—there line between work and home life has been blurred.
