Sacramento County Introduces Worker Health and Safety Act

The northern California county's Worker Protection, Health and Safety Act went into effect on October 1.

The Sacramento County Worker Protection, Health and Safety Act of 2020 came into effect on October 1, 2020 after being passed by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, according to the National Law Review.

The ordinance only applies to businesses that are located in unincorporated areas of Sacramento County. It requires employers to introduce protocols such as disinfection, social distancing and face masks. Employers will also need to implement a plan of action in the event that an employee is infected with coronavirus.

A supplemental paid sick leave requirement was also created by the ordinance. Like the COVID-19 protocols, it only applies to employers in the unincorporated areas of the county. According to the ordinance, full-time employees must be given 80 hours of paid sick leave.
