Alaska's Governor-Elect Chooses New Labor Chief

Tamika Ledbetter is the governor-elect's choice to be commissioner of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. She is currently a regional manager for the department's Anchorage and Matanuska Susitna Valley region.

Alaska Gov.-elect Mike Dunleavy on Nov. 16 announced the appointment of Tamika Ledbetter as his commissioner of the state's Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

Ledbetter is currently a regional manager for the department's Anchorage and Matanuska Susitna Valley region. ADN's news story said she is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and has a doctorate degree and master's degree from the University of Phoenix, according to information from the Dunleavy transition team, and also has a bachelor's degree from Virginia Union University.

ADN reported that Dunleavy is scheduled to be sworn in Dec. 3 above the Arctic Circle, the first time a new Alaska governor has done so. He will take the oath of office in Noorvik, a tiny Inupiat Eskimo village more than a thousand miles from the state capital of Juneau. Dunleavy's wife, Rose, grew up there.
