'The Big Easy' Awaits Safety+ in 2019

Coming off a 2018 symposium that set records for attendance and the expo, the 2019 event will take place Aug. 27-30 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in downtown New Orleans.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- VPPPA's annual national conference, the Safety+ symposium, will return to New Orleans next year.

Coming off a 2018 symposium that set records for attendance and the expo, the 2019 event will take place Aug. 27-30 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in downtown New Orleans. The facility features 1.1 million square feet of exhibit space with 140 meeting rooms.

Exhibitors and attendees are sure to remember the 2017 national conference there, which took place as Hurricane Harvey was nearing the Texas and Louisiana coastlines. Leaders of the city of New Orleans are now carefully watching another storm, Tropical Storm Gordon, which the National Hurricane Center predicts will make landfall during the night of Sept. 4, 2018, as a hurricane.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell on Sept. 3 declared a state of emergency for the city in advance of Gordon, and she ordered that City Hall and city government offices be closed Sept. 4 for non-essential personnel. Only emergency personnel were to be on hand. "I am taking these steps to ensure that the city of New Orleans is as safe and secure as possible," Cantrell said.
