ASSP Annual Conference's Next Stop: New Orleans

The conference is set for June 9-12, 2019. ASSP already has issued its call for presenters, and proposals are due by July 18.

SAN ANTONIO -- The 57th annual Professional Development Conference of the American Society of Safety Professionals, Safety 2018, is wrapping up with post-conference courses through June 9. There are full-day courses on risk assessment, advanced safety management methods, managed fall protection, and preparation for the ASP, CSP, and Safety Management Specialist (SMS) exams.

For many attendees and for the exhibitors at this year's record-setting conference and expo, the event was a big success in a city popular for its River Walk, very walkable downtown, and restaurants. They can already start thinking about and planning for Safety 2019, because it will take place one year from now in a city that offers even more: New Orleans.

The conference is set for June 9-12, 2019. ASSP already has issued its call for presenters, and proposals are due by July 18.

The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is the sixth-largest convention center in the nation, with 1.1 million square feet of exhibit space. Last month, the Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority adopted a $557 million five-year capital improvement plan that includes renovations of the 34-year-old convention center and development of a 7.5-acre pedestrian park that will span the length of the convention center along Convention Center Boulevard. Intended to create a safer and more diverse experience for visitors and residents, the pedestrian park project will include a transportation center connected to the convention center via a covered walkway, plus outdoor entertainment spaces, seating areas, public art, and water features. Construction on Convention Center Boulevard is scheduled to begin this summer and be completed in 2020.

"The Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority's exclusive mission is to finance, construct, and operate facilities in order to attract and conduct conventions, trade shows, and other events that support and expand the economy of both the state of Louisiana and New Orleans Region," said Melvin Rodrigue, the authority's president. "It is extremely important that we continue to invest in our existing facility as well as critical new facilities in the surrounding district to ensure that New Orleans retains its position as one of the very best convention destinations in the entire world."
