CSB Meeting This Week on Recommendations Program, Audits

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board will hold a public business meeting April 4 at its Washington, D.C., headquarters, starting at 1 p.m. EDT.

The agency's said the board members will discuss open investigations, the status of inspector general audits, financial and organizational updates, and a review of the agency's action plan. The board also will consider and possibly vote on a proposed change to Board Order 022, the CSB Recommendations Program, which is how the independent agency hopes to prevent serious accidents. New business during this meeting may include a discussion and release of an animation related to CSB's investigation of the February 2017 Packaging Corporation of America incident in DeRidder, La. Three contractors were killed and seven contractors were injured in an explosion at the Packaging Corporation of America facility there on Feb. 8, 2017; the workers were conducting hot work activities near a tank that contained a flammable atmosphere and ultimately exploded.
