First ZR1 Corvette to Be Auctioned Next Month

The auction wll benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and its Building for America's Bravest program. The car is the fastest, most powerful production Corvette ever made, according to the company.

General Motors and Chevrolet announced Nov. 30 that the first retail production 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will be auctioned Jan. 20, 2018, at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, Ariz, to benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and its Building for America's Bravest program. The car is the fastest, most powerful production Corvette ever made, according to the company.

The foundation is named for New York City firefighter Stephen Siller, who died while responding to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center towers. The foundation builds mortgage-free smart homes for the most catastrophically injured service members, with the homes featuring automated doors and lighting; wider halls and doorways; showers that accommodate wheelchairs; automatic door openers; cabinets, counters, and stove tops that can be raised and lowered; backup generators; and central heating and air conditioning systems that can be controlled by tablets.

"GM and Chevrolet are proud to honor and support the brave men and women of our armed forces," said Steve Hill, GM's vice president of U.S. Sales and Service. "With the proceeds from the auction of the Corvette ZR1, we will be able to offer additional support to some of our most severely wounded veterans through the Building for America's Bravest effort."

GM's announcement said it and Chevrolet employ more than 6,000 veterans and there are more than 50,000 GM retirees who are veterans.

As for the car, details and a photo are available here.
