Canada Marks 2017 Patient Safety Week

The Canadian Patient Safety Institute is using the week to encourage patients to learn about key questions patients should all their health care providers about their medications.

Canadian Patient Safety Week is taking place Oct. 30-Nov. 3, 2017, a national annual campaign when the Canadian Patient Safety Institute reaches out to everyone involved in the delivery of health care in Canada -- patients receiving care, current and future health professionals, decision makers, etc.

Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Canada's minister of health, offered congratulations to CPSI "for the tremendous work they do to help facilitate the delivery of the safest care possible for Canadians. Since 2003, the CPSI has been working with governments, health organizations, leaders and health care providers. The CPSI inspires extraordinary improvement in patient safety and quality by developing evidence-informed products, organizing resources, ensuring consistent and effective communications, and celebrating and nurturing successful partnerships."

CPSI is using the week to encourage patients to learn about key questions patients should all their health care providers about their medications. Taylor said the Canadian government will continue working with CPSI and other health care organizations, leaders, and service providers to develop safer health systems for all Canadians.

"Though I hope no Canadian has to deal with a loved one being hospitalized, it may be the reality for most. As such, I encourage all Canadians to learn more about the importance of patient safety and the role they can play in making care safer for their loved ones," Taylor said.
