G20 Leaders Reference International Standards in Statement
The declaration includes a positive reference to industry-led international standards.
The G20 participants included a reference to industry-led international standards in a declaration following their early July meeting, ANSI reported.
The G20 Leaders' Declaration: Shaping an interconnected world highlights common goals and objectives for the world's major economies. On page 5 of the declaration, the section titled "Harnessing Digitalisation" states, "We aim to foster favorable conditions for the development of the digital economy and recognize the need to ensure effective competition to foster investment and innovation. We will continue to promote effective cooperation of all stakeholders and encourage the development and use of market- and industry-led international standards for digitized production, products and services that are based on the principles of openness, transparency and consensus and standards should not act as barriers to trade, competition or innovation. They can promote interoperability and security in the use of ICT [Information and Communication Technology]"
.
ANSI said July 10 that it supports the statement.
