ACGIH Honoring 2017 Award Winners at AIHce

The William Steiger Memorial Award winner is U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, who has led his colleagues in pushing for full funding for OSHA and has supported legislation to expand the number of workers OSHA covers and update its enforcement measures, as well as securing $110 million in federal resources for Cincinnati's NIOSH campus, according to ACGIH.

ACGIH® will honor its 2017 Awards winners during the AIHce 2017 conference in Seattle in early June.

The Herbert E. Stokinger Award recipient is John Cocker, Ph.D., who is a Fellow at the UK Health & Safety Laboratory. He has 43 years of experience in biological monitoring and more than 100 peer-reviewed publications; he became an ACGIH member in 2000 and joined the Biological Exposure Indices (BEI®) Committee.

The John J. Bloomfield Award winner is Lucinette Alvarado, MS, CIH, who is an industrial hygienist in the Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs group at Covestro LLC in Pittsburgh. A member of AIHA and ACGIH, she serves on the ACGIH® Industrial Ventilation Committee. The Meritorious Achievement Award went to J. Torey Nalbone, Ph.D., CIH, who is associate professor and Chair of the Departments of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Construction Management at the University of Texas at Tyler and has a long history of service to ACGIH; he chaired the American Board of Industrial Hygiene from 2010-2012.

The Robert T. Hughes Memorial Award, which was recently established by the ACGIH Board of Directors to honor a former chair of the Industrial Ventilation Committee, is going to Thomas Godbey, who retired from the Donaldson Company, Inc., where he was a Senior Applications Engineer in the Industrial Air Filtration Group and Engineering Consulting Manager. He has served on the Industrial Ventilation Committee as a consultant since 2016 and has been an instructor for industrial ventilation conferences at several universities.
